Victoria Real Estate Board’s Community Relations Committee Serves Hot Lunches at the Rainbow Kitchen
Lunch is served! July 4 was a meaningful day for the Victoria Real Estate Board’s (VREB) Community Relations Committee, who volunteered their time to provide hot meals for people in need during Rainbow Kitchen’s lunch service. Rainbow Kitchen relies on volunteers such as the REALTORS® from VREB, to help serve over 10,000 meals to their guests each month.
In addition to volunteer service, the committee was thrilled to provide a $10,000 donation on behalf of REALTORS® in Victoria to ensure Rainbow Kitchen continues to feed vulnerable and food insecure people in the community.
Rainbow Kitchen is known as a go-to hub for food security programming throughout Vancouver Island’s Capital Regional District. Their programs include weekday breakfast and lunch service and a Rainbow Market with grocery items, all at no cost. They’re also a champion in diverting food waste, rescuing over 10,000 pounds of food every month that would otherwise end up in a landfill. They’re proud to offer a delicious and ever-changing menu that’s inspired by the food they receive from their partner grocery stores and farms.
Throughout the year, VREB supports many causes important to the community members of British Columbia’s capital city. Their Community Relations Committee made a $2,500 donation to Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Island to support ocean protection and plastic reduction. The board is rallying REALTORS® in Victoria for three local beach clean-up events throughout the summer. They also made a $10,000 donation to Silver Threads Service which will help ensure that local seniors can access services and support. Much of the donation was earmarked for the organization’s food program, which provides seniors with access to healthy meals, which is an increasing issue amidst rising food prices.
