Members of the Medicine Hat Real Estate Board (MHREB) hit the road with Unison Alberta’s Meals on Wheels program for their 2025 REALTORS Care® Day. A total of 24 REALTOR® volunteers in Medicine Hat, Alberta, spent the day delivering nutritious meals and care packages to seniors and individuals facing mobility challenges, illness, or other barriers.

The care packages that accompanied the meals were thoughtfully filled with items such as crossword books, gloves, hot chocolate, oatmeal, popcorn, lip balm, and other small comforts meant to brighten the recipient’s day. This volunteering activity was also supported by a total of $250 in financial contributions from MHREB. Through their work, volunteers supported local food security and helped to foster a stronger sense of community and care throughout the city.

“Volunteering alongside my peers allowed me to connect more deeply with them and with my community,” said Michelle LeBlanc, salesperson and REALTOR® with River Street Real Estate. “It’s humblingand refreshingto step back from daytoday stress and remember the bigger roles we can play when we come together.”

Unison Alberta, the organization behind the Meals on Wheels program, empowers individuals aged 50 and above to lead fulfilling, engaged lives. Their work includes Active Aging initiatives and adult day programs, offering services designed to help older adults thrive. In Medicine Hat, Unison’s Meals on Wheels program provides relief for individuals who are unable to prepare meals on their own due to agerelated illness, mobility loss, disability, recovery from surgery, or caregiver stress. In 2024 the program delivered 32,155 meals to 342 clients, helping recipients to receive nutritious food and friendly visits that aid in supporting their independence and wellbeing.

“The Meals on Wheels tagalong gift bag dropoff was especially rewarding because it allowed for a personal connection and the chance to brighten someone’s day in a simple but thoughtful way,” said Dave Mulder, salesperson and REALTOR® with RE/MAX Medalta Real Estate.

For REALTORS®, who help people find a place to call home, this initiative is
especially meaningful. By supporting Meals on Wheels, REALTORS® in Medicine Hat helped members of their community continue to live safely, comfortably, and independently in the homes they cherish.

This REALTORS Care® Day is just one of the many ways the Medicine Hat Real Estate Board supports its community. Throughout the same week, members also took part in three additional volunteer initiatives, including:
working with Prairie Gleaners to package dehydrated vegetables for soup mixes shipped
to communities affected by war, natural disasters, and other hardships worldwide;
preparing school lunches for local children through the Root Cellar Foundation’s Brown
Bag Lunch Program; and
ringing bells in support of the Salvation Army.

Together, these efforts highlight the commitment of REALTORS® in Medicine Hat to making a
meaningful impact.
