Through their Seniors Care Drive, the BC Northern Real Estate Board (BCNREB) brought warmth and care to local charities supporting low-income seniors across the region. Volunteers packed and delivered essential items to help ensure seniors can live active and healthy lives in their own homes.

REALTORS® in Northern British Columbia spent their REALTORS Care® Day supporting seniors and ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to continue living fulfilling lives. With senior citizens making up nearly one fifth of the total population in Canada, there are more and more people in need of support and community connections to continue aging in place. With as many as 1 in 3 older adults living on their own saying they have a need for mental health care, maintaining these connections is crucial.

With local brokerages acting as receiving areas, REALTORS® in Northern BC spent a week collecting food, warm clothing, blankets, medical supplies, and toiletries. On their REALTORS Care® Day, volunteers took to the road to deliver cars filled with essentials and thousands of dollars in donation cheques to four charities across the region who look to reduce the impact poverty has on low-income seniors.

These warm and caring donations were distributed to Kermode Friendship Society in Terrace, the Creekside Seniors Centre in 100 Mile House, the Prince George Council of Seniors and the Williams Lake and District Seniors Activity Centre. Each of these organizations works to advocate for their local seniors while also providing a range of essential services, such as social activities, health and wellness programs, community support, education and meal programs.

BCNREB’s REALTORS Care® Day was a testament to the power of community and the impact of collective efforts. By supporting these four charities, they demonstrated their dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of seniors, helping to ensure those in need can continue to enjoy the comforts of home.

The Seniors Care Drive is one of many ways that BCNREB gives back throughout the year. Since 1995 the real estate board has been providing $1,000 scholarships for students attending BC Universities. REALTOR® volunteers also participate in the Salvation Army’s Kettle Drive and provide donations for organizations including the Quesnel SPCA, Hadih House, Elizabeth Fry Society, and Luvs Northern Rescue.
